Hi, can I put this motor on e Mini Titan e325 SE, with the stock ESC? or I must change de stock ESC?

look esc manuel,if its up to 30a you can use.I use 30a with this motor.
   kee660 (65%)
I use this motor for a long time, Mine only run with align stock 35A ESC, no problem for that ACE 40A. I usually took four minutes flight each, 3D no problem, a bit hot, but ok
   Helimaniacos (97%)
IF your ESC is 40A or more, not need to change. But if minor, you should replace it too!
   syryus (74%)
I dont know which ESC are you talking about, but i don't recommend you a little ESC because to use it you might use a 30A ESC or Higher *)

motor pulls an easy 35-40 amps. Upgrade your esc
   James (67%)
this motor draws 30-50amps on my trex 450. mini titan is about the same size. So your esc has to be at least 40amps to reliably run this motor. recomend turnigy kforce40 or superbrain 40

Verry stable for 3D flying. I have 1 question. What timing I need for this motor and 2200mA/h/20C 3 cell batery? After flight, my batery have high temperature I dont now what timing is good. What settings have you for this motor? thanx
   Helimaniacos (97%)
i use 3S 2200 25c, no 20c, and 11T gear. motor/esc/battery is not hot, but not cold. i fly for 10min
   domdom (49%)
im getting best efficiancy with 7 degrees
   kee660 (65%)
For all my 250 450 and 500 heli, I always use stock timing come with ESC, normally is Middle, low is ok too. Not high timing for heli

Can someone please verify the actual size of the shaft for this motor. It gives two sizes in the description: 3.0mm and 3.175mm. Which is it?

I also blew a 30A ESC with this motor on blade 400 with 3S 2200 and 13T. Now running hobbyking 50, ok so far after 10 flights. Even the 50A still gets very warm to the touch. Also the motor become warm.
   biggbear (87%)
If esc and motor are getting too warm, try dropping down to a 12t or 11t pinion. That should lower the temp's some as system isn't working as hard. Should still be enough head speed for you.??

The Motor is powerful good for T-Rex450 size. Only the Screws supplied was not correct size, should be tight fit type as big as main blade screw diameter. The screw grips loosen when the motor get hot. This will cause some unexpected damage especiall the main gear. See pic: HK-450 IMPROVE

i have installed turnigy 2215h on my hk450 with no issues but e500 shaft is too short it cant reach the main gear, anyone know how to fix that ?
   biggbear (87%)
Mine is installed from the bottom, with a Rhino 10T pinion, and fits fine. What pinion are you using????
   Michal (34%)
thanks for replay, i use 13t pinion that came with the motor, was also trying to install the motor from the bottom but the pinion (at the highest position) reach only half of the main gear
   biggbear (87%)
Is your pinion flush with the top of the shaft?? You should be able to go a bit higher if necessary, as long as the set-screw in the pinion still engages the shaft. Mine sits above the end of the shaft about 2-3mm, (just guessing there) and there is still lots of room for the set-screw to tighten onto the shaft. Also, a 13t pinion might be a bit much. Tried it on mine, and ***fed a 30A esc, then went to a 40, 11 and 10t pinions. Basing this on the rpm figures others have submitted.
   mkplanes (65%)
I have this motor with the HK450. Put the top of the pinion flush with the top of the gear. Dont worry about the fact that there is no 'c' clip to hold the bell on- the magnets hold it up and I have never had a problem with it. Just move the pinion up so you have maximum connection between the main gear and the pinion.

If you are using 3s 2200mah batteries, switch to a 11t pinion. 13t is too big- puffs batteries and cuts your flying time down alot. The 11t gives me 7 minutes of hard flying with a 2200mah. Good performance, would recommend.
   bothal3 (98%)
I lengthened the flat space on the shaft by ~ 2 mm. The pinion can now be adjusted to fit flush to the top of the main gear.
   David (31%)

I would like to ask if this motor would work with 2s 7'4v ?
I am thinking to do this to reduce the KV and can use a bigger propeler ( 6x5 - 7x4)
   xero67156 (59%)
This would work fine as long as you're not going for a pusher setup. The bell and shaft are not held in with a c-clip so it would push the bell and magnets right out of the motor. You could modify the shaft, but good luck with that.
   Sfakias (45%)
For a pusher setup you can cut a small tubular section of an old fm antenna with inner diameter that just fits aroun the shaft. Place it between the prop adapter and the bearing and it will act as a spacer and it will not allow the shaft to push the bell out of position

getpm (43%)
Just got this motor for my HK450. Although the main shaft is grub screwed to the rotor, it does not appear to be held in place against the non rotating part. Is this normal? Should there be a clamping ring, a circlip or something?
   xero67156 (59%)
It doesn't need the clip in a heli configuation as there is no force on the shaft to push it out. This motor works great for the hk450.
19/09/2009
Graupner (78%)
Thats a very nice motor , but its very electric hungry . I would not suggest that motor a beginner in a 450er Heli , because he is really powerfull ( nice for those who want 3D flying)
   xero67156 (59%)
I agree, this is not a beginner motor. Try the 2836 3700kV. It will work better in the long run is you have more options with it. The E500 is really stuck with 3S and 11T pinion. The 10T pinion you can find elsewhere looks to be "janky" and I would trust it.

Hey all,
Is it true that you need to purchase separate mounting screws when installing this motor into an HK 450?

If so, can someone tell me what size screws you need to mount the motor?
   xero67156 (59%)
The mounting bolts are now included as well as M2.5 bolts
   DEHiCKA (75%)
You are wrong, I recieved mine a week ago and the holes are M3, not M2.5 and bolts are not included!
   mkplanes (65%)
mines coming soon via EMS... so would some M3-10's work for mounting?
   DEHiCKA (75%)
I ain't got HK, but SE V2. You need bolts that go into the motor 3-4mm, no more. If you get longer bolts they can stuck into the coil or connection wires in the motor.
By the way I measured the motor today, and it's KV with no load is 4660.
   xero67156 (59%)
My mounting bolts came with the heli, not the motor. My heli came with both m3 and m2.5 bolts. The motor only comes with the 13T pinion, grub screw and connectors, presoldered.
16/09/2009
DEHiCKA (75%)
There is a mistake in the Tin Hua review for this motor!
You don't need to file nothing to setup it in the trex 450, couse it have two bolt holes that are 16mm from each other and two are 17mm. 16mm is exact what you need for your trex.

go with a 40 amp for sure,
" on an HK-450****11t pinion...this motor pulled 37amps * full throttle/collective on an Astro Flight Watt meter. Lots of power, runs nice and smooth, but needs at least a 45 amp speed controller. Looks like around 350**400 watts of power. "

   biggbear (87%)
Paired the Mystery 40A ESC with the Turnigy E-500 6 turn heli motor, 10T pinion. Full throttle pulled 42 amps, measured 456 watts on the watts-up meter. Esc is 40A-60A burst, can barely feel any heat out of the esc, even after full throttle run for a few seconds. Full 10 minute's of hovering, (still learning the heli thing), with Rhino 2250-3 cell pack
   JEB123 (72%)
How do you get these numbers? My EagleTree data logger reads 180Watts at 15 Amps. I don't understand.
   xero67156 (59%)
How are you getting your numbers JEB123? Everyone is noting that they are getting theirs at full collective/pitch. Sounds like yours are coming from just hovering. If you are pulling full collective/pitch, are you sure you are setup correctly?

I also blew a Plush 30A ESC with this motor on HK450 with 3S 2200 and 10T. Now running Sentry 40, ok so far after 3 flights. Even the 40A still gets very warm to the touch. Gonna have to reduce throttle curve. Can someone put a Wattmeter to this thing?

   xero67156 (59%)
I'm using a 36A HXT esc and it used to get hot hovering at around 60% throttle. I've changed the throttle curve so I'm now hovering at around 85% and everything is coming down cool.

best motor 3d wise I ever used on my 450 origionanaly stock trex now a frankenbird . The question burning in my mind is are you ever gonna restock thes or do I need to look elswhere for my heli parts. I can't wait seceral months for restock on a motor. This is my biggest complaint with HK. They could have all my business but restock lag times suck! When you have a product getting a solid 5 stars do you think you should stock it? Do you need a stocking dealer in the US? I would invest if you could get a handle on your turnaround times. seriously,Dee

Yes, means not tighten - came loose in first flight...

Burnaby (75%)
Anyone else have same problem stated above of: motor bell housing, shaft and magnets can pull away from the windings. Not sure if it did that new or something came loose. Real ugly if it pops out during flight. With motor being a pain to remove/reinstall for inspection need to confirm if it's a problem.

Also why did they bother including a 13t pinion when a 11t or less is required for it's intended usage in a 450 class heli.
   Felar Furlong (85%)
same here, bell can be easily separated from the motor. maybe it was designed that way.
   Ralf R (75%)
it`s no problem and no failure - i have three not Turnigy Outrunner and everyone is like this and were flown for several years now. will only be a problem if you mount it backwards and the shaft is not fixed on the other side. If you use it in an 450 Heli the pinion is on the shaft and so nothing will be loosen during flight ! Please look at the set screw in the bell - mine was not fixed properly !!!
   Burnaby (75%)
Mounted on the HK450. The pinion does stop it from falling out though when bottomed out the pinion is barely touching the main gear with inadequate contact to keep the blades going (probably stripe the main gear). Hopefully it'll stay in place like Evil said.

How does one mount it backwards? Didn't realize there's a front & back.

Set screw loosens and tightens, looks like a std. black set screw. Not sure what Evil means by look at the set screw. By not fixed properly does that mean not tighten?
   biggbear (87%)
Yes, I have same issue....the magnet can is not secured by a c-clip, or anything. Myself, I would not trust it the way it is, as Burnaby said, it can drop enough to strip out a gear. I mounted a 3mm wheel collar on the shaft to stop it from dropping out. Left a little bit of clearance between the wheel collar and the bearing housing, and still have enough room for an 11 t pinion to fit properly on the HK-450. It may never drop off when the motor is running, as per Ralf R, but for myself, just a bit of cheap insurance against such an event.
Also, noticed when it was apart that the magnets on the can are glued in, but there are no spacers machined into the can to separate the magnets. Not a big issue, just an observation.
Haven't run it yet, just got it installed, looking forward to see how it performs. Still, great value for the buck.
