The Motor is powerful good for T-Rex450 size. Only the Screws supplied was not correct size, should be tight fit type as big as main blade screw diameter. The screw grips loosen when the motor get hot. This will cause some unexpected damage especiall the main gear. See pic: HK-450 IMPROVE

Is your pinion flush with the top of the shaft?? You should be able to go a bit higher if necessary, as long as the set-screw in the pinion still engages the shaft. Mine sits above the end of the shaft about 2-3mm, (just guessing there) and there is still lots of room for the set-screw to tighten onto the shaft. Also, a 13t pinion might be a bit much. Tried it on mine, and ***fed a 30A esc, then went to a 40, 11 and 10t pinions. Basing this on the rpm figures others have submitted.

I have this motor with the HK450. Put the top of the pinion flush with the top of the gear. Dont worry about the fact that there is no 'c' clip to hold the bell on- the magnets hold it up and I have never had a problem with it. Just move the pinion up so you have maximum connection between the main gear and the pinion.
If you are using 3s 2200mah batteries, switch to a 11t pinion. 13t is too big- puffs batteries and cuts your flying time down alot. The 11t gives me 7 minutes of hard flying with a 2200mah. Good performance, would recommend.

This would work fine as long as you're not going for a pusher setup. The bell and shaft are not held in with a c-clip so it would push the bell and magnets right out of the motor. You could modify the shaft, but good luck with that.

For a pusher setup you can cut a small tubular section of an old fm antenna with inner diameter that just fits aroun the shaft. Place it between the prop adapter and the bearing and it will act as a spacer and it will not allow the shaft to push the bell out of position

I agree, this is not a beginner motor. Try the 2836 3700kV. It will work better in the long run is you have more options with it. The E500 is really stuck with 3S and 11T pinion. The 10T pinion you can find elsewhere looks to be "janky" and I would trust it.

I ain't got HK, but SE V2. You need bolts that go into the motor 3-4mm, no more. If you get longer bolts they can stuck into the coil or connection wires in the motor. By the way I measured the motor today, and it's KV with no load is 4660.

There is a mistake in the Tin Hua review for this motor! You don't need to file nothing to setup it in the trex 450, couse it have two bolt holes that are 16mm from each other and two are 17mm. 16mm is exact what you need for your trex.

Esc is 40A-60A burst, can barely feel any heat out of the esc, even after full throttle run for a few seconds. Too bad HC does not sell 10t pinions. Don't think we're suppose to mention competitor's name. Go to hk450 site for recommendations.

best motor 3d wise I ever used on my 450 origionanaly stock trex now a frankenbird . The question burning in my mind is are you ever gonna restock thes or do I need to look elswhere for my heli parts. I can't wait seceral months for restock on a motor. This is my biggest complaint with HK. They could have all my business but restock lag times suck! When you have a product getting a solid 5 stars do you think you should stock it? Do you need a stocking dealer in the US? I would invest if you could get a handle on your turnaround times. seriously,Dee

been flying (hovering and trimming)my HK-450 at about 45-75% power..... went to Idle-up2 100% pitch travel & 100% THROT.. to do loops and rolls and i almost smoked my 2200 15c lipoly... landed as it began to swell... pulls a lot of amps... i recommend at least a 45 amp... my SS plush 35amp got really hot also...

on an HK-450****11t pinion...this motor pulled 37amps * full throttle/collective on an Astro Flight Watt meter. Lots of power, runs nice and smooth, but needs at least a 45 amp speed controller. Looks like around 350**400 watts of power.

Anyone else have same problem stated above of: motor bell housing, shaft and magnets can pull away from the windings. Not sure if it did that new or something came loose. Real ugly if it pops out during flight. With motor being a pain to remove/reinstall for inspection need to confirm if it's a problem.
Also why did they bother including a 13t pinion when a 11t or less is required for it's intended usage in a 450 class heli.

same here, bell can be easily separated from the motor. maybe it was designed that way.

it`s no problem and no failure - i have three not Turnigy Outrunner and everyone is like this and were flown for several years now. will only be a problem if you mount it backwards and the shaft is not fixed on the other side. If you use it in an 450 Heli the pinion is on the shaft and so nothing will be loosen during flight ! Please look at the set screw in the bell - mine was not fixed properly !!!

Mounted on the HK450. The pinion does stop it from falling out though when bottomed out the pinion is barely touching the main gear with inadequate contact to keep the blades going (probably stripe the main gear). Hopefully it'll stay in place like Evil said.
How does one mount it backwards? Didn't realize there's a front & back.
Set screw loosens and tightens, looks like a std. black set screw. Not sure what Evil means by look at the set screw. By not fixed properly does that mean not tighten?

Yes, I have same issue....the magnet can is not secured by a c-clip, or anything. Myself, I would not trust it the way it is, as Burnaby said, it can drop enough to strip out a gear. I mounted a 3mm wheel collar on the shaft to stop it from dropping out. Left a little bit of clearance between the wheel collar and the bearing housing, and still have enough room for an 11 t pinion to fit properly on the HK-450. It may never drop off when the motor is running, as per Ralf R, but for myself, just a bit of cheap insurance against such an event. Also, noticed when it was apart that the magnets on the can are glued in, but there are no spacers machined into the can to separate the magnets. Not a big issue, just an observation. Haven't run it yet, just got it installed, looking forward to see how it performs. Still, great value for the buck.

Good thing I looked her before installing the simple Hobby King 25/30A ESC that I ordered with this motor and the HK450 kit! I'm waiting for a 40A ESC from another company. I might use that one instead with this motor.

Running at 85% throttle (max0 with 11t pinion and 60 or 80A ESC would be the better setup.

Tested this motor in a Trex450 with 3s 2200mAh packs and 11T pinion. The trex almost exploded due to the HS ! ...those planning to run this with their HB King2 ...good luck !
Will try with 2s2p 1800mAh lipo and 13T pinion next.
